Dodgers Lose Close One To Nationals

The Washington Nationals barely got a “W” over the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday at Nationals Park with the Nationals winning 5 to 4. Nationals pitcher Saul Rivera (6.21 ERA) got the win, while James McDonald (3.99 ERA) took the loss for the Dodgers. Ross Detwiler went 5.2 innings for the Nationals, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and no strikeouts. Also pitching for the Nationals was Jason Bergmann (5.06), Tyler Clippard (3.24), Mike MacDougal (3.81), and Sean Burnett (3.12). The Dodgers’s starter Chad Billingsley went 6 innings, allowed one hit, one home run and 3 earned runs with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts. Hong-Chih Kuo (2.28), and George Sherrill (1.81) also pitched for the Dodgers. With the win, Rivera’s record goes to 1-3, while McDonald falls to 5-5.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Nationals managed 5 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Nationals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Dodgers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Andre Ethier could not get much going at the plate as he left 6 runners on base. The Dodgers managed 4 runs, 8 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Tom Hallion, Jerry Crawford, Bill Hohn and Phil Cuzzi. There were 18,635 Nationals ticket holders in attendance at Nationals Park.

The win puts the Nationals at a record of 52-99, (36 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Dodgers to 91-61, at the top of their division.
