Ted Lilly went 7 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. The Dodgers’s starter John Ely went 7.1 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Jeff Weaver (2.70) also pitched for the Dodgers. With the win, Marshall’s record goes to 5-1, while Ely is at 3-2. Carlos Marmol earned the save for the Cubs, bringing his saves up to 11.
In addition to the one run, the Cubs scored 4 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cubs, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Dodgers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Xavier Paul could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Dodgers managed no runs, 5 hits and one error.
