The San Diego Padres got a tough win over the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday at Petco Park with the Padres picking up the W 3 to 2. It was one heck of a game that folks with Padres tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Padres pitcher Heath Bell (1.83 ERA) got the win, while George Sherrill (7.23 ERA) took the loss for the Dodgers. Mat Latos went 5 innings for the Padres, allowed 2 hits, one home run and one earned run with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Padres was Joe Thatcher (1.66), Ryan Webb (3.24), and Luke Gregerson (2.50). The Dodgers’s starter Vicente Padilla went 4 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. James McDonald (8.22), Kenley Jansen (0.00), and Hong-Chih Kuo (0.76) also pitched for the Dodgers. With the win, Bell’s record goes to 5-0, while Sherrill is at 1-2.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Padres scored 8 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Padres, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Yorvit Torrealba had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Dodgers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Dodgers managed 2 runs, 3 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Brian O’Nora, Jerry Crawford, Phil Cuzzi and Chris Guccione. There were 42,075 Padres ticket holders in attendance at Petco Park.
